Director of Accounting and Finance Operations EMEA

The Director, Accounting & Finance Operations - EMEA is responsible for ensuring smooth functioning of the financial operations within the EMEA region. The EMEA team is spread across 25 offices with a core team based in London. The role reports to the Global Director who is based in the US and will have 14 direct reports with a larger team on indirect reports across the EMEA offices.

The role is responsible for overseeing the accounting function, including all statutory and regulatory financial reporting and compliance, as well as risk management, and optimizing finance operations to support organizational goals. The role is also responsible for working with the Internal Audit team to ensure audit findings are properly remediated and also supports the financial integration of new offices and office closures as well as special projects and new initiatives.

  • Responsibility for timely submission of financial statements (both audited and unaudited) and tax submissions across all entities in EMEA
  • Responsibility for all Financial Operations in EMEA
  • Responsibility for operation and continuous improvement of the financial control environment of the region
  • Provide support, mentoring and leadership to local Finance teams across the region
  • Managing key stakeholders (including Office Executive Partners) regarding operational effectiveness for the finance function
  • Design, implement and maintain policies and procedures to deliver accurate and timely accounting, financial and management information that meets regulatory requirements and internal business needs
  • Support financial integration of new offices and offices closures in collaboration with Office Operations and the Office of the General Counsel
  • Ensure supervision of statutory accounts and audit compliance of offices in the region
  • Coordinating and driving further integration with our Global Operations Centers and recalibration of EMEA Finance Team through establishing common methodologies across the finance organisation to develop a fully integrated finance function
  • Leadership of Treasury, Accounting, Audit, Payroll and AP for all EMEA offices
  • Support EMEA offices to deliver innovation and a strong sense of client service to the function, while also ensuring that the function is run efficiently, to the required standards of quality expected, and in the most cost effective manner
  • Support offices on Firm wide and Local Project implementation initiatives
  • Manage a disciplined reporting and control process to accurately and timely report revenue, operating and capital expenditure and other financial related metrics
  • Provide leadership, supervision and coaching to Finance Managers to help them raise their profile and improve service quality
  • Review finance staff capabilities and organizational structure and implement improvements and development plans as appropriate
  • Ensure that EMEA Finance has a highly capable team through ongoing development, attraction and retention of skilled finance professionals

The must haves:

  • 10+ years PQE experience, ideally ACA
  • Law firm background
  • Experience working in a large global role at Head of/ Senior level with exposure to financial accounting across markets
  • Prior experience of managing a large team (both local and remote)
  • A comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and regulations
  • The ability to drive process improvements within the finance function
  • The ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the Firm.
  • Gravitas to build relationships at the most senior level
