Chief Designer - Fashion Apparel

Job description

About the Role:

  • Define and evolve the brand's creative vision, design language, and seasonal direction
  • Lead concept development for all collections
  • Approve final designs, fabrics, colors, and silhouettes to ensure brand consistency
  • Ensure collections are trend-relevant, commercially viable, and differentiated in the market
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of designers
  • Assign projects, set timelines, and ensure workload is balanced and efficient
  • Conduct regular design reviews, feedback sessions, and performance evaluations
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance creative culture
  • Oversee the end-to-end design process from concept through production
  • Review mood boards, sketches, tech packs, samples, and fittings
  • Ensure fit, construction, and quality meet brand standards
  • Resolve design and development challenges in collaboration with technical and production teams
  • Partner with merchandising to align design direction with sales targets and assortment plans
  • Collaborate with sourcing and production on fabric development, costing, and timelines
  • Support marketing and brand teams with creative input for campaigns, lookbooks, and launches
  • Participate in key vendor and factory meetings as needed
  • Analyze market trends, customer insights, and sales performance to inform design decisions
  • Balance creativity with cost, margin, and scalability considerations
  • Drive innovation in materials, sustainability, and design processes
  • Ensure collections are delivered on schedule and within budget

About the Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in fashion design, with leadership responsibility
  • Proven experience managing and developing a design team
  • Strong expertise in garment construction, fit, textiles, and fabric development
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and design management tools
  • Strong understanding of the womenswear market and consumer behavior
  • Strong creative vision with a commercial mindset
  • Leadership presence with the ability to inspire and guide teams
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and decision-making skills
  • Highly organized with strong time and project management abilities
  • Adaptable, strategic thinker comfortable in a fast-paced environment
