We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading construction company in Hong Kong. This role focuses on contentious matters arising from large-scale construction projects and infrastructure works. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal advice, manage disputes, and safeguard the company's interests in complex contractual and regulatory environments.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead dispute resolution by managing arbitration, litigation, and mediation related to construction projects.
  • Provide contractual advice on claims, variations, delays, defects, and other disputes.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including project teams, senior management, and external counsel.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with Hong Kong laws governing construction and infrastructure works.
  • Deliver training to project teams on dispute avoidance and contract management best practices.
  • Develop case strategies to achieve favorable outcomes in litigation and arbitration.
  • Oversee documentation by preparing, reviewing, and managing legal documents related to disputes and claims.
  • Coordinate external counsel to ensure cost-effective and high-quality legal representation.
  • Advise on settlement negotiations to resolve disputes efficiently and protect the company's interests.
  • Monitor industry developments to anticipate changes in laws and regulations affecting construction projects.
  • Support project delivery by ensuring that contentious issues are managed without disrupting timelines.

Position Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 7 years PQE.
  • Solid experience in construction law and contentious matters, ideally gained in Hong Kong.
  • Proven track record in handling disputes related to major construction projects and infrastructure works.
  • Strong knowledge of Hong Kong arbitration and litigation procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Regional exposure: Experience with cross-border construction disputes or regional infrastructure projects is an advantage.
  • Leadership skills: Demonstrated ability to mentor junior lawyers and contribute to team development.
  • Commercial acumen: Strong business sense with the ability to balance legal risks against commercial objectives.
  • Fluency in Cantonese, English & Mandarin are essential
